Sammi Matias, a Commercial Music Major with an Emphasis in Music Technology, joins us as an Imagination Scholar. Sammi shares: “As a musician, I see music not just as a hobby, but a way to express faith and connect with others on a soul level. I’m in a vocal group here at Belmont called Voxology and we focus on bridging cultures and building sisterhood through Gospel and R&B music. The CAC program’s focus on religion within the arts deeply resonates with me because gospel music allows me to express my faith and collaborate with others to create a supportive community. I’m excited to be an Imagination Scholar and a connector between artists and faith communities, using my experience to foster spaces where creativity, storytelling, and religion meet!”
The Imagination Scholar program identifies, empowers, and supports a cohort of visionary students invited to help shape the spiritual and creative life of Belmont’s campus. Rooted in creativity and community building, this paid opportunity allows students to build original creative work, assist with Creative Arts Collective events, and engage the campus community at the intersection of faith and art.
Each semester, scholars will work alongside their peers and fellow creatives on campus to serve and develop a vibrant artistic community on campus. As ambassadors for the Creative Arts Collective, scholars will design creative projects that connect the Creative Arts Collective to the on-campus community and look for opportunities to connect the Creative Arts Collective to the creativity already taking place on campus. The program is intentionally experimental: scholars shape its structure, outputs, and culture. Learn more about the program here.
